Kara Andrade is a five-year veteran of multimedia journalism, print and online, who uses social media to bridge the world of newspapers, technologists and entrepreneurs to present relevant, accessible and edgy stories. She builds communities online and offline both through reporting and consulting work and organizes events in virtual worlds such as Second Life.
Kara served as the Interactive Editor for Youth Radio’s award-winning converged production company. She spearheaded Youth Radio’s online content strategy, distribution, expanding web audiences and partnerships. Kara graduated from the University of California at Berkeley with a Master’s in Journalism. She received her B.A. in Literature from New College of Florida and has six years of experience in nonprofit development, public health and community organizing. She has worked as a multimedia producer, consultant, staff writer, videographer, and photojournalist for many publications including Agence France-Presse, the Associated Press, the San Jose Mercury News, Contra Costa Times, the Oakland Tribune and many others. Currently, she is the community organizer at Spot.Us.
