I'm a freelance journalist, and I've been based in New Orleans for the past year and a half. I'll be in a master's in journalism program in Washington, DC for the 2011-2012 academic year. In addition to reporting in the US, I have also covered stories in Brazil such as the construction of a wall around Rio de Janeiro slum communities.

Freedom Riders Celebrate Anniversary, New Generation On the 50th anniversary of the Freedom Rides organized to test federal law prohibiting segregation on interstate travel, some of the veterans of those rides made the final leg of the planned journey, arriving in New Orleans, along with some new recruits. Vietnamese Community Is Frustrated with BP Claims Process Coastal Louisiana has a substantial Vietnamese community, many of whom fish for a living. They are frustrated with the compensation program set up by BP after last year's oil disaster.

Director of Employment and Community Development Established a program to help adult English language learners find employment and access education. Spearheaded a campaign to open a community development credit union to ensure access to safe and affordable financial services for low-income and immigrant residents.
