Corner markets have been made over in L.A. with healthy food options...but that hasn’t been enough to get underserved communities eating healthy. In some cases, the markets even reverted back to the unhealthy food that was there before. Now, groups are working to create “community buy-in” preemptively, so that by the time the next "market makeovers" come to neighborhoods, folks who live there will be more apt to stick with the healthier program. Advocacy Groups have conducted in-depth classes about healthy eating at high schools, attempting to create "community ambassadors" to spread the word among family and peers. One of the classes has even produced a "commercial" about good habits that will run around the city, including on city buses, next month. Can long standing habits be changed for the better, and are these the types of efforts to achieve it?
