Last week, Uganda's key leader in the gay rights movement was murdered. Throughout Eastern Africa the LGBT community faces a series of hardships. From violence and discrimination to segregated living conditions and little access to health care, their plight is little heard by international media.

The Global Press Institute is uniquely situated to cover this series with depth, heart, context and accuracy. With trained reporters stationed in Kenya, Uganda, and Rwanda, this 3 part series will focus on the sexual justice movement in each country. What legal action is in place? What laws are helping and hurting the situation? What are NGOs and advocates doing on the ground? And most importantly, each story will feature an intimate profile of an LGBT community member brave enough to share his/her story with the world. These stories will not only help to increase access to information, they will motivate the global community, provoke changel locally and maybe even help sway legislative action!

All 3 articles will be feature-length and will feature companion photo essays. With your help, this series will be published by dozens of GPI content partners around the world. Together we can increase awareness and access to information on this important issue.
